About
The National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) aims to empower EDs to improve their ability to provide high-quality care for children. The NPRP is led by the EMSC Program, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), and the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA).
Assessment
The NPRP Assessment evaluates an ED’s ability to provide high-quality care for children based on national guidelines regarding pediatric emergency care. Every five years, the voluntary assessment is administered by the EMSC Data Center (EDC) along with updated guidelines. It is available any time for internal quality improvement purposes.
Checklist
The NPRP Checklist is based on the AAP, ACEP, and ENA 2018 joint policy statement, “Pediatric Readiness in the Emergency Department.” The checklist is a tool used to check if your ED has the important components needed to care for children as outlined in the joint policy statement.
Toolkit
The NPRP Toolkit includes seven domains: 1) administration and coordination; 2) healthcare provider competencies; 3) quality and process improvement; 4) policies, procedures, and protocols; 5) support services; 6) guidelines for improving pediatric safety; and 7) equipment, supplies, and medications. The toolkit is used to help providers better understand and achieve pediatric readiness in the ED. Similarly to the checklist, the resources in the toolkit align with the 2018 joint policy statement, “Pediatric Readiness in the Emergency Department.”
